"Love the symbolism here, too. An apple — the traditional fruit of the forbidden tree, twice forbidden to Nick because of his limited vampiric palate. How ironic that Adam and Eve should be ejected from the Garden of Eden after eating of the forbidden fruit so that they could not also eat from the tree of life and be immortal, yet Nick with his immortality cannot bear to eat of that traditional forbidden fruit." — comment by dlyt on AO3
