However, the story wanted to be tighter; and it's probably the better for it. Still, in terms of Natalie's characterization, one needs to add a measure of continuity, for all that it was rare in the actual series. "Only the Lonely" comes hard on the heels of "[[I Will Repay]]". From Natalie's perspective, Season One was a very bad year." — ''excerpted from reply to [[Amy R.]] on AO3'' |

+ | {{Quotation|This was a tough read and I mean that as a compliment. I love Natalie so much and to see her try to navigate the trauma of the episode's aftermath is a wonderful subject for a story. |

+ | [...] As you brilliantly brought up, with Natalie now a victim of Jamieson's crimes her professional involvement would have to be revisited. That's another angle I never thought about. Couple that with the little detail of the climax of the episode occurring somewhere that was outside the 27th precinct's jurisdiction and boy does that complicate matters. |

Shorter comments
- "I love episode tags, especially ones like this that examine the “real world” consequences of the on-screen action!" — excerpted from comment by dlyt on AO3
- "This is great. Natalie through the seasons goes through so much and its never really much addressed what happens afterward and how she deals and copes with it." — excerpted from comment by Nicholas_Lucien on AO3
- "There are layers of complexity here, yet it all comes down to Nat’s inability (unwillingness?) to break out of the cycle she finds herself in after the trauma of Jamieson’s attack. She seems to be spinning in place, with nightmares and repeated testimony and sleeplessness, etc. Then there is the irony of her insistence on telling the truth, but not about Nick’s involvement, and that is a big part of why the Crown Prosecutor doesn’t entirely believe her." — excerpted from comment by dlyt on AO3

That the prosecutor can't accept the pure coincidence of her entanglement with Roger comes through spot on! It also reminded me that the FK lists used to discuss the Convenient Plot Device-ness there. Indeed, a sting gone awry is so much more plausible, to someone who doesn't know the characters, and yet... coincidence is all it was.
