A dead body washed up on the shores of Lake Ontario leads Nick and Schanke to a long-lost treasure map.

Notes[]

Written for FK Fic Fest 2011 (released 23 July). The recipient was twilight2000, and the story was beta-read by brightknightie. Word count: 13,400 words.

Written to the prompt: "Casefic, Nick & Nat & Schanke in plot-based story."

Author's Notes[]

  • "Takes place in early season two. My knowledge of Toronto geography and history comes mostly from Google Maps and Wikipedia, so hopefully no blatant mistakes have been made."

Quotes[]

  • The first thing Nick noticed when he stepped out of the Caddy was the cold: damp and bitter, cutting through his coat. Not that he'd ever admit it to Schanke, or he'd never hear the end of it. Funny how a person gets used to central heating over the decades, he mused as he made his way down the embankment [...]
  • "So," Schanke said, "pay a visit to the deadbeats, or make a quick trip to Scarborough? It's still pretty early in the evening. And come on, don't tell me you aren't curious, too. Pirates!"
Nick laughed. "I don't think Lake Ontario was a hotbed of pirate activity in the 19th century, Schank."
